Dear Tumblr,

Please stop misusing the term “trigger”. When something is “triggering”, that is not synonymous with “that makes me uncomfortable to look at,” or “that makes me sad.”

When people say “trigger”, they mean “that causes me to relive previous psychologically traumatic events in my life. It makes me feel like I am in immediate danger. It brings up images of, thoughts about, or uncontrollable flashbacks of the traumatic event. It may also result in nightmares about the event, continuing to haunt me for days after.”
